First Singaporean Women Team Conquer Mt Everest

By Zakaria Abdul Wahab

SINGAPORE, May 20 (Bernama) -- Three Singaporean women became the republic's first women team to conquer Mt Everest when they reached the summit of the world's tallest mountain in Nepal early Wednesday morning, reports said.

Lee Li Hui, 27, Esther Tan, 26, and Jane Lee, 25, arrived at 3.45am, 3.54am and 4.43am on Wednesday Nepal time respectively, reports said quoting a spokesman from Singtel, the local sponsor of telecommunication equipment for the climbers.

Another foreign media report said the Singaporean women reached the summit along with the first oldest American climber Dawes Eddy, 66, and a US Astronaut Scott Parazynski.

The Singapore women began their ascent on May 8.

Clear weather and low winds on Mt Everest on Tuesday allowed at least 20 climbers to scale the 8,850-metre peak from the Nepalese side while dozens more were reportedly moving up the icy slopes, the Nepal mountaineering authority said.

It said there were dozens more who were heading up the slopes and expected to summit in a day or two because of the improved weather.-- BERNAMA

Cousins gang-raped during double date

IPOH: Two cousins thought they were in for a romantic night with their boyfriends.

However, the double date turned into a nightmare instead when the girls were gang-raped by nine men.

Gerik OCPD Supt Mahad Nor Abdullah said the boyfriends, in their 20s, joined in the rape after picking the girls up from their homes in Kati, Kuala Kangsar, last Wednesday.

The girls, aged 16 and 17, were brought to a picnic spot at Lata Lawin, about 20km from Gerik.

There, they found seven other men waiting at a gazebo at about 10pm.

“The seven turned out to be friends of the boyfriends.

“We believe this meant they had had planned to rape the girls all along,” Supt Mahad said yesterday.

Each boyfriend, he said, forced himself on the girls before passing her to his friends.

The victims’ ordeal dragged on to the next day before they were abandoned.

Several villagers found them and sent them home at 7am.

The girls, who are school dropouts, lodged police reports at the Kati police station on Friday.

Supt Mahad Nor said police had picked up three suspects so far, including the boyfriends, from their homes in Kuala Kangsar and Gerik.

“We are tracing the other six men, who are all in their 20s,” he said.

Husband And Wife Jokes

Jealous Husband
A jealous husband hired a private detective to check on the movements of his wife. The husband wanted more than a written report; he wanted video of his wife's activities.

A week later, the detective returned with a video. They sat down together to watch it. Although the quality was less than professional, the man saw his wife meeting another man!

He saw the two of them laughing in the park. He saw them enjoying themselves at an outdoor cafe.

He saw them dancing in a dimly lit nightclub. He saw the man and his wife participate in a dozen activities with utter glee.

"I just can't believe this," the distraught husband said.

The detective said, "What's not to believe? It's right up there on the screen!"

The husband replied, "I can't believe that my wife could be so much fun!"
I Can Not Tell a Lie
A married man and his secretary were having a torrid affair. One afternoon they couldn't contain their passion, so they rushed over to her place where they spent the afternoon making passionate love. When they were finished, they fell asleep, not waking until 8 o'clock that night.

They got dressed quickly. Then the man asked his secretary to take his shoes outside and rub them on the lawn. Bewildered, she did as he asked, thinking him pretty weird.

The man finally got home and his wife met him at the door. Upset, she asked where he'd been.
The man replied, "I can not tell a lie. My secretary and I are having an affair. Today we left work early, went to her place, spent the afternoon making love, and then fell asleep. That's why I'm late."

The wife looked at him, took notice of his shoes, and yelled, "I can see those are grass stains on your shoes. YOU LIAR! You've been playing golf again, haven't you?"
My Wife
A man complains to a friend, "I can't take it anymore."

"What's wrong?" his concerned friend asks.

"It's my wife. Everytime we have an argument, she gets historical!"

"You mean hysterical," his friend said, chuckling.

"No, I mean HISTORICAL," the man insists. "Every argument we have, she'll go .."I still remember that time when you ...."

hot till september

from Thestar

By BEH YUEN HUI

KUALA LUMPUR: Temperatures have been rising all over the country, with Klang Valley (Subang) recording 35.6°C last Friday.

Outside the Klang Valley, Pahang (Batu Embun) experienced the hottest temperature last Thursday at 36.2°C.

The Meteorological Department said the hot and generally dry spell was expected to persist until September.

Department chief assistant director (central forecast office) Ahmad Zaki Mohamad Saad said the weather pattern was a usual phenomenon in the country.

He said that April and May were the hottest months according to climatology studies.
“The change of wind direction during the inter-monsoon season last month has caused the weather to be drier,’’ he said.

Ahmad Zaki said the country would experience the South-West monsoon from mid-May to September which usually brought a dry spell, he said.

He said although humid weather was forecast during the day, occasional rain and thunderstorms could be expected.

The maximum temperature is expected to range from 30.7°C to 34.1°C.

Shopping Humour

Give me free meat
It was many years ago since the embarrassing day when a young woman, with a baby in her arms, entered his butcher shop and confronted him with the news that the baby was his and asked what was he going to do about it?
Finally he offered to provide her with free meat until the boy was 16. She agreed.
He had been counting the years off on his calendar, and one day the teenager, who had been collecting the meat each week, came into the shop and said, "I'll be 16 tomorrow."
"I know," said the butcher with a smile, "I've been counting too, tell your mother, when you take this parcel of meat home, that it is the last free meat she'll get, and watch the expression on her face."
When the boy arrived home he told his mother. The woman nodded and said, "Son, go back to the butcher and tell him I have also had free bread, free milk, and free groceries for the last 16 years and watch the expression on his face!"
Caught stealing
A shoplifter was caught red-handed trying to steal a watch from an exclusive jewelry store.
"Listen," said the shoplifter, "I know you don't want any trouble either. What do you say I just buy the watch, and we forget about this?"
The manager agreed and wrote up the sales slip. The crook looked at the slip and said, "This is a little more than I intended to spend. Can you show me something less expensive?"
The crowded store
It was the day of the big sale. Rumors of the sale (and some advertising in the local paper) were the main reason for the long line that formed by 8:30, the store's opening time, in front of the store.
A small man pushed his way to the front of the line, only to be pushed back, amid loud and colorful curses.
On the man's second attempt, he was punched square in the jaw, and knocked around a bit, and then thrown to the end of the line again. As he got up the second time, he said to the person at the end of the line...
"That does it! If they hit me one more time, I won't open the store!"

Another pregnant women death cause of snatch theft

After 24 hours, women pregnant death because of snatch theft, today one more same cases happen at Kelantan..

From Thestar

By SYED AZHAR and C.A. ZULKIFLI

KOTA BARU: Another pregnant woman met with a tragic end in a snatch theft when she fell off her motorcycle and was run over by a car.

Handbag slung around her neck, Saripah Mohd Nor, 34 and four months’ pregnant (pic), was riding her motorcycle through Kampung Padang Raja, Melor, Ketereh, here yesterday morning when two snatch thieves pounced on her.

One of the thieves tugged at her bag till the strap broke. Saripah’s motorcycle then grazed the suspects’ motorcycle and she fell off her vehicle. A car travelling in the opposite direction rammed into Saripah, killing her on the spot.

It was the second such death in just days.

In Ayer Hitam, Johor, on Sunday, expectant mother Jamilah Selamat, 31, fell off her motorcycle onto the pavement when snatch thieves grabbed her bag. She went into a coma and died on Tuesday.

Kota Baru OCPD Asst Comm Zahruddin Abdullah appealed to anyone with information to help police nab the snatch thieves.

He added that the driver of the car had lodged a police report.

In Tumpat, Saripah’s grief-stricken mother, Hashimah Hussin, 54, said her daughter was in the midst of a divorce from Mat Zani Awang, 39.

She said Saripah had five children and was on her way to Mat Zani’s house to bring her eight-year-old son back when the incident happened.

“Her last words to me were to take care of her three-year-old and youngest daughter before she left for her husband’s home in Bachok.

“Lately, she has always been telling me to take care of her children if anything happened to her.”
Saripah was buried at the Kampung Kok Bedullah Muslim cemetery yesterday.

Pregnant woman dies after thieves pull her off motorcycle

From Thestar

by FARIK ZOLKEPLI

JOHOR BARU: The killers on motorcycles have done it again — this time, snatch thieves took two lives when they tried to rob pregnant Jamilah Selamat.

Jamilah, 31, suffered severe head injuries after falling from her motorcycle on Sunday. She died at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital at 7.30am yesterday without regaining consciousness.

Her husband of seven months, trader Razali Ahmad, 41, was a distraught man yesterday.

For him, the tragedy was harder to take because he had just started to taste happiness again after five years when his first wife died of cancer.

The tragedy also leaves Jamilah’s two children from her first marriage — Norasyikin Salleh, seven, and Mohd Khairi Ridwan Salleh, five — without their mother. They looked dazed and clung to their crying stepfather.

Razali said he was told by an eyewitness — his older brother’s friend — that his wife had hit the pavement face first and did not move after that.

“The witness told me that he saw two men on a motorcycle flee the scene immediately after Jamilah fell, and her bag was nowhere to be seen,” he told reporters at the hospital mortuary yesterday.

Razali said Jamilah, a handicraft dealer, was on her way home to Taman Mekar after work that day.

Jamilah had lost her handbag to snatch thieves last year but escaped unharmed. A friend advised her to twirl the handbag around the rearview mirror for a tighter hold.

That move may have been fatal.

When the snatch thieves grabbed Jamilah’s bag, they pulled her motorcycle, causing Jamilah to fall.

“I never thought that I would lose her this way. We were expecting our child, we have only been married for seven months ... I lost my first wife to bone cancer and now, I have lost Jamilah and baby,” he said.

Razali has two teenage children from his previous marriage.

Jamilah and the unborn child were buried at the Ayer Hitam cemetery yesterday.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ibrahim Arif confirmed police received a report on the incident.

Eyewitnesses are urged to contact the police hotline at 07-2212999.

In 2004, a Nanyang Siang Pau clerk, Chong Fee Cheng, 37, died after she lapsed into a coma following a snatch theft in Taman Molek, Johor Bahru.

In December last year, snatch theft victim Lim See Nya, 58, was run over by a three-tonne truck when she lost her balance and fell onto the road, after a motorcycle pillion rider grabbed her handbag in Bukit Mertajam.

The School Joke

Picking on a tardy student

A college business professor could not help but notice that one of his students was late to class for the third time that week.

Before class ended he went around the room asking students some questions about the day's lecture.

Of course, he made sure to pick on his tardy pupil.

"And who was it that developed the theories behind communism?" the professor asked.

"I don't know," the student said.

"Perhaps if you came to class on time, Mr. Reebs, you would know," said the professor.

"That's not true," the student replied. "I never pay attention anyway!"

A student's request for extra money

A student called up his Mom one evening from his college and asked her for some money, because he was broke.

His Mother said, "Sure, sweetie. I will send you some money. You also left your economics book here when you visited two weeks ago. Do you want me to send that up too?"

"Uhh, oh yeah, O.K." responded the kid.

So his Mom wrapped the book along with the checks up in a package, kissed Dad goodbye, and went to the post office to mail the money and the book.

When she gets back, Dad asked, "Well how much did you give the boy this time?"

"Oh, I wrote two checks, one for $20, and the other for $1,000."

"That's $1020!!!" yelled Dad, "Are you going crazy???"

"Don't worry hon," Mom said, kissed Dad on the on top of his bald head, "I taped the $20 check to the cover of his book, but I put the $1,000 one somewhere between the pages in chapter 15!"
