Three Quarantined Under Singapore's New Flu Control

SINGAPORE, May 5 (Bernama) - Singapore has quarantined three people on the first day of the Home Quarantine Order being invoked against Influenza A (H1N1) spread in the city-state Monday.

According the Singapore Health Ministry, as of 7pm Monday, a foreign resident and two Singaporeans were quarantined.

Under the order, travelers entering Singapore with a travel history to Mexico over the past seven days will be quarantined for seven days when they entered Singapore, effective from the last day they had been in Mexico.

The order, issued under the Infectious Diseases Act to contacts and suspected contacts of the virus, was aimed at limiting the spread of the flu in the local community.

The ministry said there were no additional cases for investigation in Singapore as of Monday night.

Of the 27 cases investigated thus far, 24 cases had tested negative for Influenza A and three tested positive for the usual circulating seasonal strains of Influenza A, said the statement.-- BERNAMA
